Rise STEM students Fatou Cham and Marley Murray went to D.C. this summer.

The National Energy Education Development Project (NEED) recently saluted Rise STEM Academy for Girls as Kentucky’s 2025 Elementary School of the Year. Rise was also singled out for Outstanding Energy Engineering and Design Project.

The school’s Green Team spearheaded the Cafeteria Cleanup, in which they worked with high school students from The HILL to design and build a lunch station for dumping excess milk, recycling the milk carton, saving unopened food, composting the waste, and disposing of trash. Representing their school, Fatou Cham and Marley Murray attended the 45th annual NEED Youth Energy Conference in Washington, D.C., this summer to accept the awards.
